Email Weekly Competitor Intelligence
Researches up to 3 competitor websites every Monday and emails you a structured HTML report covering pricing, features, content, hiring signals, and messaging changes.
What It Does
Every Monday morning, this Needle workflow browses up to 3 competitor websites, searches for recent news, and sends you a structured competitive intelligence report by email — all before your first meeting of the week.
No dashboards to check. No tabs to open. No manual research. Just a clean HTML email in your inbox every Monday.
Why It Matters
Staying on top of competitors is critical, but the reality is that most teams do it inconsistently — or not at all. Here's what happens when you skip it:
- A competitor quietly drops prices and you lose 3 deals before you even notice.
- They launch a feature your prospects were asking you for, and you find out from a lost deal.
- Their hiring surge signals a major product push, but you're caught flat-footed in a renewal meeting.
One hour of manual competitor research every week, multiplied across your team, is dead time. This workflow replaces it with a 3-node automation that runs while you sleep.
How It Works
This workflow has 3 nodes and requires only a Gmail connector. It runs once per week.
| Node | Type | What It Does |
|---|---|---|
| Scheduled Trigger | Cron | Fires every Monday at 7:00 AM UTC so the report is ready before your workday starts. |
| AI Agent | AI (Internet Search + Browse Web) | Visits each competitor's pricing page, blog/changelog, homepage, and careers page to extract intelligence. Formats everything as clean HTML. |
| Gmail | Sends the HTML report to your inbox with a date-stamped subject line for easy search and archiving. |
The AI agent visits each competitor's key pages and extracts:
- Any pricing changes in the last 7 days
- New feature releases or product announcements
- Most recent blog post title and summary
- Hiring signals (engineering, sales, AI/ML roles indicate investment direction)
- Current homepage hero headline (detects messaging pivots)
It then formats everything as clean HTML, ending with a "Key Watch Items" summary — 2–3 bullets on the most significant developments worth actioning this week.
What You Get Each Monday
A single email containing:
- Pricing snapshot — changes or "No changes detected this week"
- Product news — new features, launches, or changelog entries
- Content pulse — their latest blog post with a one-sentence summary
- Hiring signals — which teams they're investing in
- Messaging radar — current homepage headline so you catch pivots early
- Key Watch Items — AI-curated action bullets at the bottom
Who It's For
- Product managers tracking feature parity and roadmap gaps
- Founders and CEOs who need a weekly market pulse without a research team
- Sales and marketing leaders who need live talking points against competitors
- Strategy teams monitoring market positioning shifts
Setup
- Install the workflow and connect your Gmail account.
- In the AI Agent prompt, replace the 3 default SaaS examples (Zapier, Make, n8n) with your actual competitors — just swap the names and URLs.
- Done — the first report lands in your inbox next Monday at 7:00 AM UTC.
The workflow runs on zero credits for publishing — it only consumes credits when it executes (once per week).
Customize It
- More competitors: Extend the AI Agent prompt to research 4–5 competitors by adding more entries.
- Different sections: Add or remove intelligence categories in the prompt (e.g., remove hiring signals, add review site monitoring).
- Different time: Change the cron trigger from
0 7 * * 1to your preferred Monday time (remember: UTC). - Multiple recipients: Modify the Gmail node to CC your team.
Timezone Note
The trigger runs at 7:00 AM UTC, which is:
| Timezone | Local Time |
|---|---|
| GMT | 8:00 AM |
| IST | 12:30 PM |
| ET | 3:00 AM |
Adjust the cron expression if you want the report at a different time in your timezone.
