Screen Resumes to Slack
Automatically watches a Google Drive folder for new resumes, uses AI to analyze and score each candidate, then delivers a concise hiring brief to your Slack channel.
What It Does
This workflow helps recruiters and founders quickly filter inbound applications without manually reviewing every resume. When a new resume lands in your Google Drive folder, the workflow automatically analyzes it with AI and delivers a clear, actionable screening brief straight to your Slack channel.
In short, it does three things:
- Watches a specified Google Drive folder for new resume files.
- Uses an AI agent to analyze each resume — highlighting candidate skills, red flags, and providing a straightforward recommendation.
- Sends the screening brief to a designated Slack channel for immediate review.
What You Need
- A Google Drive account with a dedicated folder for incoming resumes (e.g., "Pending Resumes" or "Inbound Resumes").
- The Google Drive connector authorized on the Needle platform.
- A Slack workspace with a bot or connector authorized to post messages.
- A Slack channel (by default,
#hiring) where screening briefs will be sent.
How the Flow Works
| Node | Description |
|---|---|
| Google Drive: New File Instant Trigger | Detects when a new resume file (PDF, DOCX, DOC) is added to the watched Drive folder and passes the file data downstream. |
| AI Recruiter | Analyzes the uploaded resume, extracting key candidate details, concrete skills, red flags, and resume gaps. Outputs a verdict (YES, MAYBE, or PASS) formatted as a clean Slack-ready brief. |
| Slack: Send Message to Channel | Posts the AI-generated screening brief into the #hiring Slack channel with markdown formatting enabled for readability. |
What You Get
At the end of the workflow, hiring managers receive a concise, impartial summary of each candidate directly in Slack. Each brief includes:
- Candidate name and title
- Relevant hard skills — no fluff or buzzwords
- Red flags and gaps identified in the resume
- A clear recommendation — YES, MAYBE, or PASS
This turns hours of resume screening into seconds.
How to Test
- Connect your Google Drive account and set the trigger folder to your dedicated resumes folder.
- Connect your Slack account and confirm the target channel (default is
#hiring). - Publish the workflow.
- Drop a PDF resume into your connected Drive folder.
- Wait about 30 seconds, then check your Slack channel for the screening brief.
Tips and Notes
- Keep your Google Drive trigger folder exclusive to resumes to avoid unnecessary noise and false triggers.
- The AI agent is configured to cut through generic resumes and focus on concrete, verifiable skills.
- You can change the Slack channel from
#hiringto any channel that fits your team's workflow. - While this automation is a powerful first filter, always follow up with interviews for final hiring decisions — treat the AI screening as a time-saving first pass, not a replacement for human judgment.
